High School Subjects

Since I tutor both math and Chemistry and Physics, most of my students get tutored in both their math and science subjects. It is common to tutor Geometry along with Chemistry, and Algebra along with Physics. Most students come once a week but some come twice a week.

TAKS Exams

About April, in the past, the school starts to focus on taking the TAKS exams. During this period, I often get students on the weekends for TAKS review sessions. During these sessions, I give the students a number of past TAKS exams to practice on and then explain the problems they have trouble with. Math help is the most requested.

SAT, PSAT, and ACT preparation

If requested, I can also work with a student preparing for the math portion of a SAT, PSAT, or ACT exam. Here, the student normally has a exam workbook and we work through the practice exams. I also give the students some training in various testing strategies such as "guess and check" and "eliminate the obvious and guess". I do not tutor the reading and writing part of the exams.

Teaching ahead

During the summer, I am often requested to teach ahead the subjects they will be learning in the Fall. For example, I have tutored a student in Pre Calculus and Physics in preparation for the following year. When teaching ahead, I have more liberty to try to not only teach the subject, but to also show the student where math and science can be used in a practical manner.
